Interior finishes with clay
Clay can absorb and release moisture, a property known as sorption. When air humidity is high, moisture can be temporarily stored in the building material and released as humidity falls. Sorption is not a new phenomenon in construction, but clay plaster has a sorption rate four to seven times that of conventional plasters such as gypsum plaster.
Clay supports a pleasant indoor climate
The clay minerals determine the material’s strong sorption behaviour and help create a pleasant indoor climate. By buffering moisture, the material also reduces the risk of mould. Clay additionally preserves the timber on which it is applied, considerably extending its service life.
Timber and clay complement each other
The advantages of buildings made from timber and clay were recognised centuries ago. The two materials also complement each other aesthetically: virtually every clay shade works with every timber species. Contrary to a common assumption, clay naturally comes in many colours, offering a palette that goes far beyond the familiar brown.
Clay – a versatile material
Clay can be used in many areas of the building trades. It is used mainly as a plaster finish, in dry construction, and particularly in combination with heating/cooling ceilings and wall heating systems.
Heating/cooling ceilings and wall heating
Heating/cooling ceilings and wall heating elements are popular, although many people are still unfamiliar with the approach. Ceiling cooling creates a pleasant freshness in summer. Cold water runs through the pipes, gently cooling the room. The same principle applies to systems installed in walls. The air remains fresh and clean and retains its natural humidity, including in winter.
Balanced temperature distribution
With no visible radiator, the room’s appearance is improved and furnishing becomes easier. Pleasant radiant heat from walls and ceilings creates a very balanced temperature distribution and also protects the building, helping you feel comfortable throughout.
